Mohawk Fine Papers is one of 50 companies profiled as both a sustainable and profitable organization in the must-have reference book, Green Biz. Mohawk was also identified in the book as having “obvious strength” in implementing the following strategies: certification, emissions measurement and reduction, recycling and resource conservation, safer alternative to toxins, and ethical sourcing.
Published by American Benchmark Press, Green Biz is an at-a-glance sustainability resource outlining some of the best methods for companies to incorporate green business practices in ways that are profitable and stimulate growth. Mohawk is among the company of leading corporations such as Ben & Jerry’s, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Google, IBM, Starbucks, Tesla Motors, and Toshiba, to name a few.

Green Biz defines Mohawk as “one of the nation’s largest industrial consumers of wind energy, buying 100 million kilowatt-hours annually (equivalent to taking more than 11,000 cars off the road each year).” The book also notes that “[Mohawk's annual purchase] is more than enough to power the operations at its three mills, [and] puts Mohawk in league with other sustainably forward companies such as PepsiCo, Whole Foods Market, the World Bank, and the U.S. Air Force.”
Green Biz also describes Mohawk’s leadership in other sustainable business areas, “[Mohawk] was the first paper company to introduce a postconsumer recycled coated paper in 1991, and the first paper company to use wind power for manufacturing. In 2007, Mohawk’s fleet of five trucks was converted to a biodiesel fuel mix, which reduces emissions, and it offsets corporate fleet mileage through NativeEnergy’s Wind-Builder program.”
