Located in San Francisco, Gooseberry Press ^[1]is dedicated to good design and beautifully made, eco-friendly products.  Their whimsical hand-drawn maps caught our attention at the Stationery Show ^[2]and the fact that they are printed with soy based inks on FSC-certified Mohawk Loop ^[3]made them even more appealing.

“Gooseberry Press ^[1]got its start in 2006 when my daughter was born,” reminisces Nina Kulick, owner and designer.  “I left a career in scientific research to pursue art and design as a way to stay home with my newborn. Five years later, I’m creating new products and exhibiting annually at the National Stationery Show ^[2].”

The colorful map series includes Hollywood, Los Angeles, the New York Boroughs, Las Vegas and Baltimore. Several of the maps have been printed as letterpress post cards which have been popular as souvenirs, announcements and save-the-dates. Nina also creates custom maps for weddings and other special events.

Most days you can find Nina in the studio staring at fabric swatches and “coloring” in Adobe Photoshop as she pleads with her cat Jules to “stop helping” and get off of the keyboard.  She (Nina, not the cat) loves vintage fabric and ribbon, funky color combinations and is crazy about pattern. She dreams of traveling around the world to “research” more cities and create more maps for the business, of course.
