How to get to Sesame Street

For over 40 years, Sesame Street® has helped young children across the world learn their letters, numbers, colors, and shapes through the use of vibrant fuzzy puppets, a caring cast, and celebrity guest stars. But the initiatives of the Sesame Workshop™, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, go beyond promoting learning. These initiatives, outlined in Can You Tell Me How…?, the company’s 2009 annual report, also instill healthy eating, respect, and kindness within its’ young viewers and participants.

Formatted as a Q&A, Can You Tell Me How…? reads like an inspirational dialogue with photographs visualizing Sesame Workshop’s impact on millions of children all over the world. The annual uses a timeline to show how it has grown from its birth in 1966, when Sesame Street co-founder and creator Joan Ganz first wondered whether television could be used to teach America’s disadvantaged children, to its place today as “the world’s largest preschool, reaching millions of kids in 140 countries around the world,” as the annual report says.
