According to the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS), a national non-profit that works to mitigate climate change, Mohawk was the third largest purchaser of Green-e Energy certified renewable energy in 2008. Mohawk, Intel and PepsiCo were reported to be the top three voluntary purchasers of renewable energy in what the CRS calls a record year for U.S. businesses.
In 2003 Mohawk became the first paper manufacturer in the U.S. to offset its electricity with Green-E certified renewable energy certificates from windpower projects. Today Mohawk offsets 100 percent of the electricity it purchases with Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs).
