Earlier this year, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce asked its members, including Mohawk Fine Papers, ”How will the new administration affect Mohawk’s business?” George Milner submitted an answer on behalf of Mohawk for the Chamber’s forum. Milner, Mohawk’s Senior Vice President, Energy, Environmental and Government Affairs responded, “The Obama administration will put emphasis on environmental protection especially in the area of climate change,” said Milner. “It will rapidly introduce the policies to limit greenhouse gas emissions.”
“The mechanism will likely be a cap and trade system or a carbon tax. It’s a sure bet that the initial reaction from most of the business community will be negative. But we believe that in the long run it will benefit the nation as a whole by reducing our reliance on price-volatile carbon based fuels, while creating opportunities for visionary companies that see a ‘greener’ U.S. as a market for goods and services that didn’t previously exist. Mohawk relies on environmental innovation to grow its business, so we have no trepidation. We welcome competing in a market that values environmental stewardship.”
